Workshop B1: “Data-Driven Approaches for User-Centric Transportation Planning and Policy”

Workshop Co-Chairs: Gregory Newmark & Kai Liu

Workshop Short Description:

This workshop brings together cutting-edge research and innovative methodologies in transportation planning, data fusion, and user-centred mobility solutions. The presented papers explore a wide range of topics, from the integration of household travel surveys and external data for assessing the impacts of fare-free public transport during the pandemic to the use of on-demand ridepooling data for more user-centric transport planning. Participants will delve into the challenges of collecting real-world data during global crises, the investigation of ride-pooling usage through mixed methods, and the implications of urban air mobility (UAM) on future transportation systems. Additionally, the workshop will address the predictability of personal travel and its impact on urban rail transit demand forecasting, as well as the comparison of activity location patterns between railway users and non-users using GPS trajectory data. Discussions will also cover the reliability of public transportation systems with autonomous first-/last-mile services, the standardisation of transit survey data, and the preferences of solo drivers for microtransit versus bus services in suburban settings. This workshop aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers and practitioners to advance the field of transportation planning and policy.
